Thai main dish is rice but there are other choices when eating curry. In fact, there are no strict rules about eating as far as it is edible and you like it.
If you like Thai foods, I guess that you also know chicken green curry. During the trip, one morning mom cooked green curry with fish ball. Either meat is common to have in the green curry. But chicken seems to be more common in restaurants. Another morning mom made fish yellow curry to be served with Thai vermicelli.
A secret of the first dish, apart from the paste, is the fish ball. (I should ask mom to write down her recipes) Mom’s fish ball was made of fish 100%, then seasoned with white pepper and salt. I think this is typical homemade food that you can have more meat or good meat than food bought from supermarket.
When you eat at home, you will make a newly cooked dish when serving and therefore it can preserve nice colors of vegetables. To do so, well boil the soup, put all vegetables, then turn off the heat. Only if there are vegetables that need to be cooked, then you will need to leave the heat on for a while or until those vegetables are soft. If the vegetables are overcooked, they turn black which also remove a look of fresh and yummy food.
Visiting Thailand is what I do every year, this year was early than usual. The country is rich of fresh vegetables and tropical fruits, food is cheap, yet tasteful. Thai cuisine has lots to do with food presentation and there are lots of recipe development in modern Thai cuisine. We have a large number of new and creative menus by adding new ingredients to the main ingredients, then they become new dishes. Additionally, Thai foods are colorful, dishes usually have a mixed combination of red, green and yellow, which gives good contrast to the dishes.
For me what I long after when going to Thailand is eating at home because there exists the best kitchen in the world. In fact, there are two kitchens, one is in my parent’s house, another is in, now, my aunt’s house. I live like a king at home and only need to say what I’d like to have. Above all, mom’s cooking is only better with time. She chooses to cook dishes that contain lots of ingredients. In my parent’s house, mom still prepares all or most of raw ingredients by hand, therefore, they are so fresh. Sometimes, while cooking mom just walks to the garden on the balcony to pick up some species, then throws them into the pot.
What my dad said is true that mom has to cook for her children so that they always miss her.
Also, mom always serves seasonal fruits at the end of the meal. Best of all is they are peeled and cut and ready to eat.
Sometimes when you look back and try to find connections between things in your life, you will find that life is wonderful and surprising.
I always think that my life is full of wonders. A year ago, I was in a salon to do my hair. A year later, I was unintentionally in the same salon with the same hairdresser to do my hair. And, he still does great work, always does things a little bit extra for my money :). To me what happened was like a dejavu. He made bridal hair and did makeup for me a year ago, then the same day this year, I did similar activity, of course, it was not bridal stuff.
But, that was not my plan for the day, I just found out a connection later. We didn’t think or I didn’t think it’s important to celebrate but it’s kinda fun for me to do something. I hope we don’t set this as a standard that it has to continue like this every year.
Thanks to the Internet, the notion of sharing information and AMJ, I found good recipes. In fact, it’s a mix of the three recipes. And, one is from a book that I got from AMJ 😉 You’re always around us and fix things for us.
We are lucky that I manage to not destroy the meat because I couldn’t find a thermometer for the meat. Not sure if we threw it away when we moved or not. Still wonder where it is.

Nyårsaftons firande är en speciell upplevelse. Jag har den annorlunda varje år. Igår hade jag en annan. Två dagar innan nyårsafton fixade vi en nyårsmeny. Vi hittade ett hummer recept till förrätt. Men vi hade inte huvudmenyn förrän igår. När vi var i en mataffär såg jag olika skaldjur t.ex. hummer, musslor, ostron, kungskrabba ben. Det får mig att tänka på vad svenskar äter på nyårsafton. Vi köpte väldigt god oxfilé och flera ingredienser som vi glömt. Sedan gick vi till Cervera för att hämta champagneglas men vi tyckte inte om något. Vi väntar fortfarande tills vi flyttar. Sedan började vi förbereda maten kl.16 och vi började äta kl.19. Det var lång matlagningstid men det gjorde maten smaka bättre tror jag. JJ köpte också ingredienser till efterrätt men jag var redan mätt så vi hoppade över den. När klockan var elva började folk med fyrverkerier. Det passade bra att äta hemma och tittade på fyrverkerier på balkongen. Vi sparade både pengar och liv -“-. Jag tittade på huset på andra sidan, det var nästan helt mörkt. Vart var de, undrade jag? Efter nytt år tittade jag på tv. Den första programmet av 2012 var King Kong. JJ sade att det var en tradition att spela King Kong på tv på nytt år. Det gör de varje år !!
